When the Castle Medical Centre is Closed
THERE ARE SEVERAL OPTIONS SOME BETTER THAN OTHERS
1. Check our opening times – we may only be closed for phone calls briefly (e.g. at lunchtime or early morning)
2. Not an emergency? Don’t know who to call? There’s now one number for NHS services in Warwickshire.
Ring WARWICKSHIRE HELPLINE - 03000 247 111 or see their helpful website www.warwickshire.nhs.uk/healthline
3. Ring OUT OF HOURS numbers (2 different numbers depending on time of day) you will get to speak to a doctor or nurse and help you get urgent care quickly. You may be offered telephone advice, given an appointment to be seen at the surgery or the GP centre based at WarwickHospital, or arrange a visit, whichever is clinically appropriate. All calls will be recorded for medico legal reasons.

4. 999 if you are concerned this is a LIFE THREATENING CONDITION. Chest pains and or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
5. NHS DIRECT – for advice In the case of urgent needs when the practice is closed. You can Call 0845 4647 PHONE LINE to speak to a triage nurse. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or arrangements made for you to see a doctor. You can also use the NHS Direct website.
6. Lastly – for VERY GOOD NON URGENT INFORMATION the http://www.patient.co.uk/ website is an absolute goldmine for non promotional information and leaflets about a wide range of medical conditions.
Please DON’T just turn up at hospital and expect to be seen. You will have to wait hours which will be very inconvenient for you and is not a short cut through the system. Please follow steps 1 to 6 above for a much safer and more helpful option for both you and to help the NHS meet your needs.
